Lieutenant Shaun Marchand, a 27 year old career member of the Upton Fire EMS Department is in critical condition at Massachusetts General Hospital. As a result of complications from the flu, Shaun developed severe pneumonia. He has been intubated and sedated since Monday January 26th. Upon his release from the MGH Intensive Care Unit, Shaun is expected to require a lengthy stay at a rehabilitation facility before returning home.

Shaun has come up quickly through the department as a Call Firefighter, EMT and since 2008, a Career Member. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant last year and assigned to Company 4. He is mentor, friend, and brother whose wit is missed at our station.

The Marchand Family is widely known in the area and has faithfully served Upton for generations. Shaun’s father Michael is the Assistant Chief of our Department. His mother Pattie is the President of the Upton Fire EMS Association. Her cooking is loved and appreciated by the members of the department and all who visit. Shaun’s grandfather Rodney, who recently passed away, was a Retired Police Chief for the Town of Upton.

The Marchand’s have devoted their life to helping others. Please keep Shaun in your prayers during his road to recovery and support. Thank you.
